The first U.S. Census Bureau's inaugural "Survey of Entrepreneurs" Businesses provided "a snapshot of the nation's employer businesses by gender, race and veterans status." One finding indicated that metropolitan Tampa businesses "are more likely to be owned by women and veterans than companies in the rest of the United States."

Since 2007, the National Women's Business Council's data reflects that in the United States there are 384,548 veteran women-owned businesses, an increase of 296% compared to a 7.7% increase in veteran men-owned businesses. The Council reported $19.97 billion in receipts, a 26.3% increase since 2007, 96.7% were non-employer firms with averaged receipts of $19,121, and 3.3% have paid employees totaling 107,542 with an annual payroll of $3.71 billion and averaged receipts of $1,001,950.
Mass. Agency Aims to Help Businesses Run by Women, Veterans and Minorities

The Massachusetts Growth Capital Corp. (MGCC) aims to assist small-business owners, particularly minorities and women, to obtain a line of credit. The quasi-public agency fills the gap between banks and online lenders, assisting more than 260 companies with capital financing commitments totaling $83.8 million. The MGCC recently launched "Diversity Goal Support" which helps minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses with up-front capital to fund initial start-up costs like payroll and supplies when competing for state contacts.
