International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict (June 2014)
Category: Sexual Harassment/Assault/Trauma
The context for this international, United Kingdom-fnded Protocol follows: "Sexual violence, whether committed as a war crime, crime against humanity and/or as an act of genocide, is often part of the tragic and brutal pattern of criminal acts committed during armed conflict and in the context of mass atrocities. Sexual violence not only affects hundreds of thousands of women and girls, but also affects and victimises men and boys." The Protocol aims to focus on the documentation and investigation of crimes of sexual violence under international criminal law, not the entire sphere of crimes of sexual violence. The protocol is the result of two years' work, aiming to provide best practices on the documentation of sexual violence. It includes practical advice, checklists and sample questions for fieldworkers.
