Debunked: Fact-Checking the Pentagon’s Claims Regarding Military Justice (April 18, 2016)

Category: Sexual Harassment/Assault/Trauma

The Protect Our Defenders (POD) report, "Debunked: Fact-Checking the Pentagon's Claims Regarding Military Justice," provides an alternative analysis of Army and Marines sexual assault prosecution data than what the Pentagon provided during the 2013 Congressional hearings which were focused on determining whether or not certain military commanders should have the authority to determine if an alleged sexual assault should be prosecuted in a military courts-martial.

POD found exaggerations and distortions of facts supporting the Pentagon's position "that commanders are more effective at prosecuting sexual crimes than military prosecutors or more protective of victims of sexual assault."  The POD fact sheet and report further analyze the Pentagon's Freedom of Information Act-provided data.
